In early June, NSIN officially kicked off our pilot cohort for X-Force, an initiative in our National Service Portfolio.

This program is an opportunity for university students to embed with military commands for applied national security problem solving.

The pilot cohort includes 40 students from 10 universities, working with 15 military problem sponsors across five states to develop prototype capabilities to address real-world problem topics.

The launch of X-Force event took place June 3-5, in Raleigh, NC, at American Underground. University participants included: Duke University, Georgia Tech, Florida Polytechnic University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC State University, Washington University, UC San Diego & CU-Boulder.

Students included in the inaugural X-Force program possess a diverse set of skills, including mobile and web app development, data analysis and visualization, hardware prototyping, social media strategy, and technology scouting.

Offering both the X-Force Fellowship (a full-time, in-person, paid summer fellowship program), and X-Force Remote (a part-time, remote, volunteer opportunity), the NSIN X-Force program runs from June through August.

During the X-Force Fellowship, Fellows embed with their military sponsors for three months and work to develop novel solution concepts that address sponsor problems, while volunteers participating in the X-Force Remote program collaborate remotely.
