DEC. 4, 2024
The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), in partnership with the Japan Ministry of Defense’s Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) will launch a prize challenge on Dec. 4, 2024, in search of artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology, with prizes awarded to the top performers. Details of the challenge launch event in Tokyo, Japan, including the venue, schedule, and registration procedures, can be found on NSIN’s webpage.

NOV. 21, 2024
Entrepreneurs and professionals interested in working with the DoD can learn the basics with NSIN during their webinar series, taking place every third Thursday of the month. Discussion topics range from budget cycles, types of government customers, and types of appropriations. There will be a Q&A period at the end of each session.

JAN. 9, 2024
Innovators with technologies to detect and track satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) in contested environments may submit solutions for the Dual Horizons: U.S.-India Satellite Tracking Challenge for up to $150,000 in awards. The ‘Ask Me Anything’ Session will be held on Dec. 4, 2024. The challenge will close on Jan. 9, 2025.



DIU hosted its first Blue UAS event at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, where more than 40 drone military end-users evaluated more than 35 uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and capabilities to support the DoD's ability to quickly scale and field commercially produced UAS and related technologies.



A cohort of ten companies were selected for the 2024 Propel Maritime Digital Defense accelerator, which will assist them in speeding and scaling their commercial innovations to support the U.S. Navy’s industrial control systems (ICS). The companies will spend the next three months working with industry and government to develop their technology for dual-use markets and the U.S. Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR).



DIU has opened a position aimed at inspiring the next generation of talent into national security through managing the talent portfolio mission. Responsibilities include tracking project progress, leading the portfolio of programs under the Talent portfolio, analyzing data, implement strategies and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with DIU mission and goals.

Join DIU/NSIN at the annual Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Florida, at the Orange County Convention Center. This event is ideal for professionals in training, simulation, and learning technologies across industries, government, academia, and the military. Visit exhibitor booth 1161 to experience DIU prototypes, meet DIU vendors, and engage in discussions during booth office hours.




DEC. 5, 2024
On Dec. 5, the 2024 DIU/NSIN Foundry cohort will showcase their final solutions to commercialize federally created technologies during a virtual pitch event. The teams will compete to win up to $50,000 in awards.

Arizona small business owners and entrepreneurs can join the Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Arizona for the Arizona Commerce Authority’s “Small Business Bootcamp: Types of Funding for Your Small Business.” This session will guide you through funding options available in Arizona, key requirements, and tips on leveraging the State Small Business Credit Initiatives Technical Assistance (SSBCI TA) program.

The Ohio AI Summit is designed for professionals, innovators, and policymakers eager to learn about the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. Attendees will gain insights into current AI trends and Ohio-led breakthroughs, learning directly from industry experts and top leaders in AI in Columbus, Ohio at CSCC, Mitchell Hall.

Start-up founders, small business owners, and product developers can join Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Kansas for the next Innovate & Elevate Seminar, “Mastering IP for Start-Ups and Small Businesses,” at Groover Labs in Wichita, Kansas. Gain practical insights into IP protection, covering patents, trademarks, licensing, and enforcement, tailored to help entrepreneurs secure and grow their businesses.

The SSTI 2024 Annual Conference is designed for practitioners and policymakers focused on advancing their regions through science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Join Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub: Arizona and expert Anthony Gillespie to learn about successful initiatives from across the U.S., explore key industry trends, and connect with peers nationwide. This engaging event includes keynote presentations, open forums, and interactive discussions to encourage attendee participation and insights.



DEFENSE INNOVATION NEWS

The DoD's Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) announced the release of its first Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA), which lays out criteria and application process for OSC loans. The NOFA will help companies finance equipment for 31 covered technology categories considered as critical technologies and assets for FY25.




DEC. 5, 2024
The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Program, part of the DoD’s science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education initiatives, offers scholarships for undergraduate, master, and doctoral students pursuing degrees in STEM disciplines. The SMART Program covers full tuition and annual stipends between $30,000 - $46,000, summer internships, and guaranteed civilian employment with the DoD upon graduation. The applications will remain open through Dec. 5. 



Companies with DoD contracts (sub or prime) or access to non-public DoD information can take advantage of no-cost cybersecurity services from the National Security Agency (NSA). Services include protective domain name systems (DNS), attack surface management, and access to non-public, Defense Innovation Board (DIB)-specific NSA threat intelligence.

The UC2 Annual Workshop is tailored for defense professionals, academic researchers, and innovators eager to deepen their understanding of critical topics like Zero Trust, Data, and Influence. Participants will gain insights from leading experts in the field, learn about funding opportunities, and explore UC2’s unique partnership-based approach to research. Held at the National Defense University on December 3rd, attendees will experience a full day of informative presentations and discussions.
